Perfect. Unique. Chosen.
Today, in this moment — know who you are.
Perfectly made by God, created for a unique purpose that was chosen by Him for you alone.
You are beyond enough. You are exemplary. You are a child of the living God, purposely made to bless the world — today, tomorrow and for generations to come.
Figuring out how? That’s your job.
Ephesians 2:10 says this, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
Maybe you don’t believe in God. Maybe you call him by another name.
Doesn’t change this fact: You are not an accident.
It’s not an accident that you exist, and it’s not an accident that you exist as you.
Who you are — your instincts, your skills, your ambitions — has a purpose.
Your life’s work is to find out what that purpose is or, oftentimes, just to trust that you already have.
That faith is critical. Because the world will tell you you’re crazy. Doubts and insecurities will set you adrift.
“Be strong and courageous,” says Joshua 1:9. “Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
A few years ago, having quit her too-stressful job, a friend of mine was flailing.
“What should I do?!?!?” she asked on Facebook.
My question: “Well, what’s your ideal? What would you do if time, money, energy and education were no object?”
Her answer: “I really like dogs. And baking.”
Me: “Do something with that.”
She did. A few weeks later, she announced she’d been hired at a bakery. But that life didn’t fit.
She tried, then, working for an insurance company. Didn’t take.
But, somewhere along the way, she discovered a love of walking.
Now she delivers mail, door-to-door, in the small town where we grew up. She’s found her pedestrian utopia.
You. You are perfect. You are unique. You are chosen.
And here’s the beautiful truth: So is everyone else.
Imagine, for a moment, a world in which we all have unwavering faith that each and every one of us has a true purpose and has been gifted everything necessary to bring that purpose to life.
Maybe that’s heaven. Maybe it’s unattainable here.
But “Earth’s crammed with heaven,” Elizabeth Barrett Browning wrote.
Today, in this moment, have faith that you can add your piece.
